The Global President of the World Innovators University (WIU), Prof. Monday Anyairo, has called on Nigerian undergraduates and postgraduate students to become innovation-driven rather than rely solely on academic certificates.
Prof. Anyairo made the call during the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on distinguished Nigerians at a ceremony organised by WIU, where eight recipients were honoured for their outstanding achievements in various fields.
Highlighting the importance of innovation in today’s world, Prof. Anyairo stressed that problem-solving skills and the ability to provide practical solutions have become far more valuable than mere academic qualifications.
“It is your skill that keeps you on the job, not your certificate,” he said. “We are transforming the education sector to emphasise innovation. World Innovators University is one of the first institutions to offer a Bachelor of Innovation as part of our commitment to preparing students for real-world challenges.”
The awardees included Mr. Victor Kwame, a cybersecurity expert; Chief Vincent Ogheneochuko, a leading accountant; Pastor Harrison Tettehifio; Alhaji Rasheed Babatunde; Dr. Ayodele Moreunkeji; Mrs. Adesomoju Opeyemi; and Mr. Michael Obi — all recognised for their innovative contributions in their respective disciplines.
In his remarks, WIU Provost, Prof. Ashok Gupta, outlined the institution’s vision and mission, stressing its commitment to advancing lifelong learning and innovation through inclusive education and strategic partnerships.
“Our goal is to champion innovation and knowledge management across all disciplines. We offer revolutionary qualifications — Bachelor, Master, and Doctor of Innovation — that prepare graduates not just with theoretical knowledge but with the skills and experience needed to transform industries,” Gupta said.

He added that WIU’s selection criteria for honorary doctorate recipients are stringent, focusing on integrity, ethical leadership, and commitment to societal development.
The institution’s approach aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
According to Gupta, WIU’s educational model integrates mentorship, industry collaboration, and practical learning to groom a new generation of global innovators.
